Sessions 3 & 4 of the Flats Arterial Community Panel explored impacts to business, community, parks, gardens, and more

The Flats Arterial Community Panel is developing a list of advantages and drawbacks for each arterial route option. During the third session, on February 9, the Panel explored the potential impacts on business and the community.

Panelists started off the day hearing from representatives of the Vancouver Economic Commission, Produce Row, businesses near Prior/Venables and businesses east of Raymur about the impact of the proposed arterial routes.

Next, they learned more about transportation safety considerations, and explored the potential impacts of the proposed routes on the neighbourhood, parks, and arts community with the Strathcona Residents Association, Strathcona and Chinatown residents, the Grandview-Woodland Area Council and local artists.

At the latest session on Saturday February 23rd, Panelists heard from Parks Board staff, community garden leaders, field sports advocates, a St. Paul’s Hospital representative, and staff from various departments of the City’s facilities.

Panelists considered this information as they continued to refine their understanding of the benefits and drawbacks of each proposed arterial route.

Future sessions will focus on integrating information and perspectives from the previous sessions, as well as the public workshops (there’s still time to RSVP to the March 5th workshop). The Panel will be developing a case statement for each route, leading to an alignment recommendation on Day 7.

Materials and videos of informational presentations are posted to the Learning Materials page after each Panel session.
