The Flats Arterial Community Panel got off to a great start on Saturday January 19th and Sunday January 20th.
41 Panelists randomly selected to represent the diversity of the Flats and the surrounding neighbourhoods gathered at Dudoc Vancouver to begin their task of recommending a grade-separated arterial through the Flats.
On Saturday, Panelists introduced themselves to one another before sitting down to hear about the community’s past, present, and future and relevant City plans and policies. They identified personal and community values to keep in mind as they consider their recommendation. Lastly, the City of Vancouver provided an overview of the proposed arterial route options.
On Sunday, panel members began assessing the advantages and drawbacks of the arterial route options relative to transportation performance considerations and cost and constructability factors.
Future sessions will delve into more detail about business, community, park, and civic facility impacts, with presentations from community members, business representations, and City and Park Board staff.
With every new layer of information they take in, Panelists will refine and revisit their understanding of the advantages and drawbacks of each route.
